Space for people

Which route below do you think is cheaper?
Which route is better for cars?
Which route would you select if you were trying to get a project approved quickly?

Got your answer?

Which alignment is better for the convention center, for the urban core, the 4th st historic district?

Which alignment utilizes space better?

Which one is better for the city?

Which one is better for people?

ODOT does not care about moving people or place making or urban form. They do not try to think about how to make cities better places to live. Engineers are given a problem to solve then solve it. ODOT cares about moving cars and trucks and getting projects approved.

We need to stop and think about this project.

A western alignment continues the trend of giving highway space back to the city, without hurting motor vehicle traffic. In the 1960's we believed that cities needed to be close to highways for economic development. We now know that highways form barriers and limit city growth. Lets reclaim some space for people.
